John Haynes Holmes (1879-1964) is considered to be one of the greatest social activists in Unitarian history. He was also one of the most controversial, especially when he went head to head with another Unitarian, former US President William Howard Taft. Our current UU principles and purposes start with these words, “We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote…” This week, we’ll explore some of these words, and their history.
